This family-owned company is behind the construction of excellent boats that are perfect for cruising, fishing, and generally exploring the waterways around you. Read on to learn the history of Four Winns Boats.
In 1975, John Winn purchased a small boat company from his friend George Spicer in Cadillac, Michigan. Spicer was retiring and Winn, a previous Starcraft Boat employee, was interested in starting a boat company of his own to build boats that they and their customers could love.
The business was named for the four Winn family members that John brought into the enterprise: his father Bill Sr. and his brothers Charlie and Bill Jr. Together, the Winns began to build their own small boats that were perfect for exploring Michigan’s many lakes.
Sadly, in 1978, the Four Winns facilities were lost in a fire, bankrupting the Winn family. However, the family remained undeterred and secured loans and supplier deals that helped them to continue manufacturing their crafts until they saw new success at the end of the 1980s, a success that has continued to the present day.
